The first edition of Global Mobile Satellite Communications (Springer, 2005) was split into two books for the second edition-one on applications and one on theory. The book presents current GMSC trends, mobile system concepts and network architecture using a simple mode of style with understandable technical information, characteristics, graphics, illustrations and mathematics equations. This new edition covers new developments and initiatives that have resulted in land and aeronautical applications and the introduction of new satellite constellations in non-geostationary orbits and projects of new hybrid satellite constellations. It covers how these can enable connections between moving objects such as ships, road and rail vehicles and aircrafts on one hand, and on the other ground telecommunications subscribers through the medium of communications satellites, ground earth stations, Terrestrial Telecommunication Networks (TTN), Internet Service Providers (ISP) and other wireless and landline telecommunications providers. In spite of my excitement and pre-order, I do intend to complete a few other games in my backlog before starting this one so it will be a while before I give an update on my impressions. This book discusses current theory regarding global mobile satellite communications (GMSC) for maritime, land (road and rail), and aeronautical applications. Obviously, I can't truly endorse the game until I play it, but I wanted to bring it to the attention of those of you who may not have seen much for it before but might share my interest once you've seen what it has to offer.įeel free to share additional reviews that you come across and your own impressions if you play it. As a fan of 2D Zelda games, seeing those comparisons has been very enticing for me and it's exciting to see something that can potentially push the "Zelda-like" genre forward. I could see myself potentially enjoying this as much as games like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Blind Forest. However, games like this have really opened my eyes to how much can still be done with this art style.īeyond the visuals, this type of game just feels very up my alley. I initially stumbled on the reveal trailer quite a while ago and was so drawn to the art style that I saved it and would occasionally think "What was the name of that really cool looking pixel art game? When is that coming out?" In the past, I haven't been much of a pixel art fan since I don't particularly care for NES style visuals in modern games. While I have not played this game yet, what I've seen and heard about it has been enough to convince me that it's worth my time.
